More information about hair bleaching
Hair bleaching
Hair bleaching is done when you want a result that is lighter than your own natural hair color. During bleaching, the bleaching powder reacts with an oxidizing agent, such as hydrogen peroxide, and with this, opens the surface film of the hair, removing the color pigment from the hair. After bleaching, warm pigments always remain in the hair, depending on the initial darkness. With the help of lightening, the hair starts to lighten gradually and often several treatments are needed for big changes. If black hair is bleached, typically orange pigments first appear in the hair and then yellowish pigments, which after bleaching are toned away with a shade. The shade always darkens the final result a little, so if you want a pure/cold light platinum blonde, then the base must first be lightened to a very light color.
Root bleaching vs. Platinum Card
When you want maximum lightening, either root bleaching or Platinum Card is the best technique. Root bleaching is a process where the lightening agent is applied directly to the base without foils. In root bleaching, the bleaching agent is typically applied only to the root area, in addition to which the hair is toned along the entire length. With this lightening method, the hair does not have its own base color visible at all. Root bleaching puts a strain on the scalp, as a strong lightening agent may feel uncomfortable on the scalp. Because of this, root bleaching is not even possible for all customers, especially if the scalp has, for example, sensitivity or eczema.
With Platinum Card technology, a little of the hair’s own base may remain visible, because in this bleaching technique, the hair sections are picked between the foils, which is why the duration of the service is also significantly longer than with base bleaching. Since the lightening agent is not applied directly to the base, the process is also gentler on the scalp.
Highlights
Highlights refers to the bleaching or color treatment of selected hair strands. Stripes create dimension, contrast and nuance in the hair by adding pieces that are lighter than the base color. With different trends, several different highlight techniques have emerged. Our professionals have a versatile mastery of different highlight techniques.
Different highlight techniques
Highlights
Highlights mean stripes that are lighter than the base color. The streaks can be so-called “sun streaks”, in which case they are a few degrees lighter than the base color, as if the sun had bleached the hair. The stripes can also be clearly lighter than the base color, in which case they stand out from the hair more clearly.
Babylights
Babylights are clearly thinner than regular highlights. Babylights are hardly distinguishable from hair. They are done much more frequently all over the head, so the end result is almost completely light. Babylights are often made specifically to lighten hair. If babylights have been done to the hair, the basal growth becomes more clearly visible as the hair grows, especially if the difference in darkness between the natural color and the highlights is big.
Balayage
The balayage technique got its name from France, according to the implementation of the technique. The lightening agent is painted or “swept” into the hair with a free hand, so that the end result is as natural as possible and grows out beautifully. With this, the maintenance interval for balayage coloring is significantly longer than for other striping techniques.
Face Frame & Money Piece
Face Frame and Money Piece are highlight techniques that can be combined with other techniques such as balayage. Face Frame is a coloring or lightening of the hair around the face. With the technique, a “frame” is created around the face to brighten the expression. The Money Piece trend is a technique inspired by the 90’s thick stripes, which today has been adapted to fit the wearer. The Face Frame and Money Piece highlights can be made soft and graceful or wide and bold. They can be tinted either to a cooler or warmer shade to emphasize different facial features, or for example green, blue or pink if you want to try something new!
