In gel polish, the surface of the nails is first treated lightly with a file, thanks to which the CrystaLac gel polish adheres to the natural nail very strongly, while still being gentle on the nail. Our professionals take care of the well-being of your natural nails, we never “roughen” or thin the nail, we only remove the shine on the surface of the nail. In addition, during the treatment, the nails are shaped and the cuticles are treated. Gel polishes are LED-hardened polishes that give natural nails a beautifully smooth and gel-like surface that lasts for several weeks. The typical maintenance interval for gel polish is 3-4 weeks, slightly depending on the growth of the nails and the lifestyle of the customer.

The differences between Shellac and CrystaLac gel polish

Shellac is the lightest option in our polish selection. Permanent nail polish looks very similar to traditional nail polish, but the hardening is done under UV light, which makes the nail polish to last longer than regular nail polish. The thickness of CrystaLac gel polish is between Shellac and natural nail overlay. Gel polish already gives a little support and durability to the nail. It can also be used to correct small unevenness of the nail. The polish is still very light and natural-looking.

Shellac is best suited for normal nails that are not particularly worn or strained in everyday life. Gel polish is suitable for normal and weaker and thinner nails. It is also perfectly suited to a more active lifestyle.

In our salons you can find a wide selection of CrystaLac gel polishes. The range of shades includes the so-called basic selection, salons’ own shades and seasonal colors. Please note that not all lacquer shades visible in e.g. social media photos are always available at all locations, as there may be differences in salon-specific shade selections. Our CrystaLac selection also includes decorative all-inclusive service, which includes the decorations you want. However, we kindly ask you to note that our manicurists are individuals with their own strengths, and there may be differences in decorating skills. Please note that if you have had your gel polish done at another salon, you must first book an appointment at Blue Lagoon for the “removal of gel polish done elsewhere”. Unfortunately, we do not service gel polishes made by another salon.

Changing from CrystaLac gel polish to Shellac polish

If you have a gel polish done at Blue Lagoon Beauty that you want to change to a Shellac polish, you can book an appointment directly at our Shellac refill service according to the style you choose (one-coloured, French / babyboomer / decorative all inclusive).

Changing the CrystaLac gel polish to a natural nail overlay service

If you have a CrystaLac gel polish done at Blue Lagoon Beauty, which you want to change to natural nail overlay, you can directly book an appointment for our natural nail overlay refill service according to the style you choose (one-coloured, French / babyboomer / decorative all inclusive).

Changing gel polish done elsewhere to a natural nail overlay service

If you have a gel polish made elsewhere than at Blue Lagoon Beauty, which you want to change to natural nail overlay, you must first book “Other gel polish removal (in connection with new polish) 15 €” and then an appointment for a new natural nail overlay service.

Changing CrystaLac gel polish to artificial nails

If you want to change your gel polish to artificial nails, you can make an appointment directly for new artificial nails. In connection with the treatment, + 15 € will be charged for changing the service.

Nails chip & split

Dry nails, for example due to the weather or hormonal reasons, can cause nails to dry out and split. Constant washing and disinfecting of hands can also dry hands and nails, which is why it would be good to use hand cream. The best friend for dry nails is cuticle oil, which you should remember to use regularly. Light protection and support can be obtained with gel polish for slightly chipped and cracked nails. Sometimes gel polish can provide the necessary little protection to the nails, which also allows natural nails to get stronger and grow. If the nails are cracking or chipping heavily, or if the problem has lasted for a long time, the natural nail overlay service would probably be a better option than gel polish. Our nail professional will gladly advise you on the most suitable solution for your nails!

Gel polish removal

Gel polish is typically the easiest to remove using an electric file. Some gel polishes can also be removed by dissolving, which makes the removal a little slower. If you want to get rid of your gel polish, it would be good to remove it properly by filing or dissolving. Typically, the final gel polish removal is done by dissolving, and in gel polish maintenance treatments the file is used. The gel polish should never be torn off. If you have gel polish done elsewhere, you must first book an appointment to remove the gel polish, and then you can book an appointment for a new gel polish at Blue Lagoon. Unfortunately, we do not do refills for gel polishes done elsewhere.

If your gel polish has been applied elsewhere than at Blue Lagoon Beauty, we will remove the varnish using an electric file, as we cannot be sure of the materials used, and if the polish can be removed by dissolving. Electric file removal is slightly faster than dissolving.

Why doesn't the gel polish last?

In order for the gel polish to last as well as possible, the following points should be taken into account when caring for the gel polish at home:

Don’t use your fingernails as tools. This prevents nail wear, durability problems and nail breakage.
Do not tap, twist, pluck, bite, tear or otherwise stress your nail or the skin around it.
Press the buttons etc. carefully and use, for example, your knuckles or another aid such as a pen.
Always wear protective gloves when cleaning, when dealing with strong chemicals such as cleaning chemicals, doing dishes, gardening, etc.
Be careful when lifting boxes, digging things out of e.g. a bag, opening car doors, using zippers/seat belts/child seats, etc. This prevents possible stability problems and broken nails.
