Information about hair coloring
What happens in hair coloring?
Hair dyeing / coloring refers to a process in which the dye reacts with an oxidizing agent, e.g. hydrogen peroxide, and with this the surface membrane of the hair opens and lets in a new color. The color brings shine to the hair and a well-chosen shade brings more glow to your skin and emphasizes the color of your eyes, for example.
Light color or permanent hair color?
Big color changes can be achieved with permanent hair color. With permanent color, more permanent results can be achieved, so this is especially suitable if you are sure of your color wishes and hope for a long-lasting result as possible. We also recommend permanent dye for coloring gray hair. The permanent color fades from the hair gradually, but is never completely washed off, which is why the basal growth also stands out more clearly, if the hair has been dyed with a permanent color. If there is a significant shade difference between your own color and the dyeing, the permanent color requires more frequent re-dyeing.
Light color means, for example, tinting or glossing services. With light color, you can’t make big color changes, but the hair can be darkened or brightened. Tinting your hair with a light color is faster than coloring it with a permanent color, because the effect time is not as long. Unlike permanent color, light color gradually washes completely out of the hair. Depending on the condition of the hair, the light color may remain in the hair for up to 10-20 washes. We recommend light hair coloring, especially when you like to change your hair tone often or if you wish to get a little fresh up to your current hair color.
Highlights
Highlights refers to the bleaching or color treatment of selected hair strands. Stripes create dimension, contrast and nuance in the hair by adding pieces that are lighter and/or darker than the base color. With different trends, several different highlight techniques have emerged. Our professionals have a versatile mastery of different highlight techniques.
Different highlight techniques
Highlights vs. Lowlights
Highlights mean stripes that are lighter than the base color. The streaks can be so-called “sun streaks”, in which case they are a few degrees lighter than the base color, as if the sun had bleached the hair. The stripes can also be clearly lighter than the base color, in which case they stand out from the hair more clearly.
Lowlights are stripes darker than the base color, which are usually made with tint. Lowlights can be done, for example, with just a few to bring subtle differences to the hair, or more streaks can be done, which gives the hair more depth. Lowlights made with a light color tint fade from the hair with washing, so this is the perfect technique for those of you who hope that the stripes blend into the hair naturally and the basal growth does not stand out as sharply as, for example, stripes made with the babylights technique.
Babylights
Babylights are clearly thinner than regular highlights. Babylights are hardly distinguishable from hair. They are done much more frequently all over the head, so the end result is almost completely light. Babylights are often made specifically to lighten hair, but if desired, babylight can also be made with colors darker than the base color. If babylights have been done to the hair, the basal growth becomes more clearly visible as the hair grows, especially if the difference in darkness between the natural color and the stripes is big.
Balayage
The balayage technique got its name from France, according to the implementation of the technique. The lightening agent is painted or “swept” into the hair with a free hand, so that the end result is as natural as possible and grows out beautifully. With this, the maintenance interval for balayage coloring is significantly longer than for other striping techniques.
Face Frame & Money Piece
Face Frame and Money Piece are striping techniques that can be combined with other techniques such as balayage. Face Frame is a coloring or lightening of the hair around the face. With the technology, a “frame” is created around the face to brighten the expression. The Face Frame trend is a technique inspired by the 90’s thick stripes, which today has been adapted to fit the wearer. The Face Frame stripes can be made soft and graceful or wide and bold. They can be tinted either to a cooler or warmer shade to emphasize different facial features, or for example green, blue or pink if you want to try something new!
Platinum Card
Platinum Card is a technique where each hair is picked up inside a foil and typically treated with a lightening agent. Platinum Card technology can also be used to create dark stripes. This technique is often used for color corrections or when the wish is for comprehensive lightening. With Platinum Card technology, maximum lightening is achieved. The Platinum Card technique usually puts more stress on the hair than other bleaching techniques, so it is good to keep in mind when using the Platinum Card striping that the hair will probably have to be cut more.
